a rich man's a thief or philanthropist

So sometimes I really like my job.

Also. I wish I was a philanthropist. I just recently learned what a philanthropist is. I had only really heard the word in a song from Wicked. And was like..hmm, I should probably look that word up. But I didn't. Then I saw it on the TV the other day and then asked L who promptly informed me. For those of you who are like me and don't know, here is the definition from wiki:

Philanthropy is the effort or inclination to increase the well-being of mankind, as by charitable aid or donations.

Or as L explained it to me, rich people who give money to people.

So yes, I would like to be a philanthropist so that I could give lots and lots of money to all the wonderful organizations and causes out there.

Side note: I normally don't like sharing a whole lot of personal info about myself with the internet world... but I figure the fact that I'm not a super rich rich person, isn't that much of a secret?

Anyways. Yes.  Getting back to why I love my job sometimes.  Well, tonight there was a dinner for the Terry Fox Run that is happening in a couple days.  It was to try to raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation.  And Betty and Rolly Fox were in attendance.  And Betty Fox gave a very moving and emotional speech.

She spoke of her son and his effort to raise money and awareness for finding the causes of cancer.  She spoke of what he wrote about PEI and Islanders when he was running here.  She spoke about his dedication towards his great cause.  It was very moving.

It made me realize that, while I don't have a lot of money, there is more that I can be doing to help various causes.  Even the smallest little bit, even just volunteering my time can make a difference.  I think anyways?
